Division A Newsletter Mission
The Division A Newsletter supports the AERA Division A mission through the publication of open access, Web-based newsletters that feature the Division A membership and our broader community. Newsletters are curated around three core goals:
- Feature the service of the Division A Officers, Division A Graduate Student Committee;
- Celebrate the talent of Division A members (e.g., principals, advocates, community leaders); and
- Highlight the contributions (e.g., scholarship, advocacy) of Division A members and the broader leadership and policy community, based on themes relevant to the AERA Annual Meeting theme, Division-specific foci, pressing social issues, and educational trends.
historyThe AERA Division A Newsletter started as a hard copy publication. The past newsletter was also aimed at featuring the service and talents of the Division A membership. During her tenure as Division A Vice-President, in 2014, Terry Orr sought to reignite the newsletter and transition it to a Web-based publication. Dr. Jeff Brooks supported the initial transition from hard copy to Web-based newsletter. Kim Kappler Hewitt and Penny Tenuto served as the Editors and leaders of the newsletter over the first several years (see Editorship History below). Initially the Web-based newsletter was primarily focused on disseminating information to the Membership about the Division A officers and celebrating the highlights of Division A activities at the Annual Meeting. Over time, the Newsletter Mission has expanded in order to build community and connect Division A members. The initial leadership of Kappler Hewitt and Tenuto, support from Division A Vice-Presidents, the ongoing commitment of the Newsletter Editorial Teams, and the contributions from Division A members have enabled the continuity and growth of the Newsletter.
