Peabody College of Education and Human Development at Vanderbilt University invites applications for a tenured faculty position (at the associate or full level) to participate in the launch of a new research-practice partnership with Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools (MNPS) centered on disrupting historical inequities with respect to race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, disability status, and other student, family, and community factors. This partnership will support three primary strands of activity:

The Department of Leadership, Policy, and Organizations (LPO) at Peabody College of Education and Human Development at Vanderbilt University invites applications for the position of tenured Associate or Full Professor of K-12 Education Leadership.
We seek outstanding candidates with research and teaching interests related to K-12 school or district leadership. We are primarily interested in candidates whose work focuses on leadership practice, including such topics as instructional leadership, strategic decision-making, data use, human capital management, and approaches to school improvement, particularly in the context of underserved and under-resourced communities. The Department is searching for someone with extensive research experience and scholarly impact, a strong track record in securing external funding, and a history of working collaboratively with colleagues, practice partners, and national educational leadership organizations.
LPO is committed to hiring a colleague who can make contributions to teaching in educational leadership across our various degree programs, especially in our undergraduate human and organization development track, and our online and on-campus Ed.D. programs for practicing professionals, all of which have leadership as a central theme.
Candidates should possess an exemplary record of scholarly accomplishment and a demonstrated capacity to work collaboratively with colleagues commensurate with the rank of associate or full professor, alongside a record of external funding. The successful candidate will have experience mentoring and training doctoral students for careers in academia in educational leadership and and/or research organizations, and commitments to teaching undergraduate and professional degree students. The Department of Leadership, Policy, and Organizations at Vanderbilt University’s Peabody College of Education and Human Development invites applications for the tenure-track position of Assistant Professor of Education Policy in Inequality. We seek candidates trained in the social sciences, whose work includes novel approaches to identifying and understanding dimensions and root causes of social inequality, and/or effective processes to ameliorate them. We are interested in a scholar whose work addresses both timely and persistent elements of social inequality in education. We are especially interested in applicants who employ interdisciplinary scholarly perspectives to examine issues of structural inequality, which may include measurements of inequality, leaders as agents of change, or the experiences of historically marginalized and minoritized populations. Candidates should demonstrate a promising research trajectory that reflects a likelihood for high scholarly output. We expect this faculty member will teach classes in the master’s, Ed.D. and/or Ph.D. programs in Leadership and Policy Studies, as well as in the undergraduate program in Human and Organizational Development.

- pursuing a co-designed agenda of research focused on understanding and addressing factors that produce inequalities in educational outcomes,
- learning from knowledge developed in practice through a combination of descriptive work and evaluation of MNPS programs/strategies, with attention to how promising approaches might be adapted and scaled,
- connecting MNPS educators and staff with Vanderbilt researchers and educators around issues of shared interest (with a set of tools and agreements to support collaboration).
The successful applicant will join a growing group of Peabody scholars who have the commitment, credibility, and experience to lead and support others’ engagement in partnership research. - understanding and addressing impacts of social and cultural disruptions (e.g., COVID-19) on students’ academic and socioemotional outcomes
- policies and/or practices (at the district, school, or classroom level) that disrupt the production of educational inequalities with respect to race, economic disadvantage, language status, disability, or other factors in producing educational inequalities
- leveraging interdependencies of schools, city systems, and agencies (e.g., health, justice, housing) to improve youth development and well-being
- promoting the production and use of evidence in educational decision making, and strategies to support the uptake of evidence-supported practice at scale.
Regardless of specific scholarly focus, candidates will demonstrate the ability to:
- lead and advocate for partnership research
- cultivate trusting relationships with district partners and other stakeholders to facilitate critical examination of research and its use
- work with district and university partners to co-construct a research agenda
- ensure the conduct of high quality/rigorous research on problems of practice and policy which matter to communities the research is intended to serve
- support school, district, and community partners in using research to achieve shared goals.
